E-Liquid: Fundamental Guide How To Choose The Right One in 2020

It has been a while since vape has evolved. In the first 10 years after vaping was introduced, E-liquid was born and has become a native and sometimes prime commodity in countries where vaping is a norm.

E-liquid was first presented as a foreign commodity which was imported from the makers in China. In the beginning it was an inexpensive commodity. However, when it was established that it’s demand increased that they produced more expensive and better E-liquids. 

Since then, there are over a hundred brands that produce e-Liquids. To cater to the varied tastes of its consumers, manufacturers created different flavours and different levels that will suit their demands. 

E-Liquids Ingredients

To produce E-Liquids, there are two key ingredients that should be present which are the following:

1. Vegetable Glycerin (VG) –  it is a thick and sticky liquid that came from the palm plant. It is used in E-Liquid as a thickener. VG is often used as components for food production, medicines and cosmetics. It can also be used as a sweetener due to its sweet taste and food preservative. 
2. Propylene Glycol (PG) – it is organic that we have been using for over a century. PG is used for flavouring and nicotine.  It is called as PG in the vaping world which is actually found in a lot of everyday products like medications, shampoo and toothpaste.

Each of an E-Liquid has a mixture of VG and PG with percentage of each should total to 100%. Mixes of PG and VG are recommended to be 50/50 which means 50% VG and 50% PG. There are also instances when the mixture is 70% VG and 30% PG and 60% VG and 40% PG. 

The MHRA

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency or MHRA mandates strict rules on selling E-Liquids in UK by testing and process of certification to make sure of its quality.

There is a larger EU rule that regulates vape products and a list of prohibited substances was presented through a law that was enforced by the MHRA in the Tobacco Products Directive or TPD. This parameter is also being carried out on the flavors and blends including a full toxicology and emission that should be presented prior to E-Liquid being sent to market.

Types of Vape Kits 

Manufacturers produced thick or thin E- Liquids to suit the preference of its consumers by using different levels of PG and VG. Higher percentage at 50% or higher for VG will need more power and heat to produce vapour. To achieve this a powerful vape kit is a must. 

For beginners, a less powerful kit is advisable. A ratio of PG content at 50% or higher is recommended.

The Mouth to Lung (MTL) Vape Kits

 The design of MTL is copied from the process of smoking a plain cigarette. The vapor is inhaled through the mouth and will be carried to the lungs after which it is exhaled. 

Small amount of vapor are produced from these kits for this to be possible. If you will use the MTL Vape Kit, a thinner E-Liquid that gives less vapor is advisable at 50% or higher PG. 

The Direct To Lung (DTL) Sub-OHM Vape Kits

If the preference is to use one that is direct to lung type of vaping wherein you inhale the vapor from the lungs and then have it exhaled, then DTL is for you.

The DTL produces a lot more vapour which makes it different. It will need an E-Liquid that is able to create a lot more vapour which is a thicker one at 60% higher. 

The Short Fill E-Liquid

The products to be sold have been regulated, the most important of which is the maximum amount of nicotine content in the e-Liquid. For vape liquid that contain nicotine, a size not bigger than 10 ml had been implemented. A Nicotine-containing e-liquid is purchased at a more expensive price due to this. 

To avoid purchases at a higher price, a Short fill was introduced. It is a nicotine-free e-liquid in a bottle that is short filled. Each bottle has a space available for the user to put the high Nicotine E-Liquid which is called a Nicotine booster shot. 

There are concentration at 18mg and 20mg which are sold. These can be added to a bigger container where a high-nicotine booster will be concentrated with a 0mg e-Liquid.  In this instance, to add a 10ml at 20mg/ml shot is being mixed to a 50ml wherein a 0mg Short fill can make a 60ml of a 3mg E-Liquid.

The Salt Nicotine E-Liquid

The freebase nicotine is what we call the usual nicotine -liquid. A Salt Nicotine E-Liquid, meantime, is different in its chemical content as well as its effect. The higher PG ratio is advisable for beginner wherein the MTL vape kit is at par with a lower wattage not greater than 15W. 

The Best E-Liquid Flavor

To make the experience more satisfying, flavors are added in vape liquids. Choosing which is up to the taste of its user. In some parts, the flavors that are saleable at the menthol, strawberry and of course, the tobacco flavor. 

To make choosing the flavor easier, we recommend that it is better to try simple taste flavors first. In the long run, when the taste changes there are other flavors that can be chosen, some of which are mixed and more sophisticated flavors. 

Adding flavors to the E-Liquid is among the features that will discourage its users to go back to smoking cigarettes.

The Nicotine Strength

When choosing an E-juice, it is choosing the Nicotine strength that is essential. Of course, choosing of which depends on what satisfies the preference of the user. 

However, it should be noted that the stronger the E-Liquid, the more Nicotine is consumed which means stronger throat punch. 

Further, the lower percentage in mg or ml means less Nicotine strength is present in the ejuice. 

How legal is E-Liquid?

When the regulations that had been provided for using e-liquids are met then it is legal in the UK. The person who will purchase should be an adult of  18 years and above. 

To make sure that you will get good quality, it is recommended to purchase E-Liquids in retailers with good standing since black markets are also present for this product. For safety and assurance, in case of doubts about the quality of the E-Liquid, it is highly advised to cease from its usage.

E-Liquids are basically safe especially when it is used correctly. Regulations had been released to make sure  that the E-Liquids that are sold in the UK are safe and of good quality.

The user should also take precautions on the safety use of E-Liquids. When at home, choose safe places where E-Liquids can be placed far from the reach of children and animals.
